Today, we wish our teachers.
We post pictures.
We write messages.
We say, “Thank you for teaching me.”
And rightly so.
But perhaps there is a slightly bigger question worth asking:
Who, or what, has been teaching us all along?
A difficult conversation teaches us about ourselves.
A child teaches us curiosity.
A failure teaches us humility.
A stranger teaches us kindness.
A mistake teaches us attention.
Silence teaches us what noise was hiding.
Sometimes, even the people who frustrate us are teaching us something.
The world around us is constantly offering lessons.
But lessons don't always arrive as lessons.
They arrive disguised as people, moments, disappointments, mistakes, silences and ordinary days.
We don't always get to choose our teachers.
But we do get to choose whether we pay attention.
Perhaps learning isn't only about finding the right teacher.
Perhaps it is about developing the attention to notice what life is trying to teach us.
So, maybe the question isn't:
“Who taught me this?”
Maybe it is:
“What has been trying to teach me this all along?”
